A TYPICAL SUGARING SEASON IN VERMONT

About the end of January, about the time of year some residents get the winter blues, we are deciding listening to weather forecasts and deciding the next best week to begin tapping the trees. Some sugarmakers will wait until town meeting day. We being sole operators can not do this as it can take two weeks to complete tapping.

On a typical year we tap mid February. This year we were boiling sap before the tapping was complete. Usually during the first part of March temperatures will warm enough for the trees to begin to unthaw and for the sap to run. Sugaring season varies from year to year as to when we start boiling and and when we start cleaning up. Normally by the end of April clean up will begin or sometimes be complete.

During the sugaring season temperature plays a key role. The nights need to be below freezing around 15-20 degrees and the days up to 40-45 degrees.  Light wet snow, rain or a nice frost at night keep the trees wet. Wind early in the season can help loosen trees and make the sap run, however later in the season it can dry the trees out quickly

.Put all these factors together you would have a perfect sugaring season in Vermont. That would not be typical. Typical for us is unpredictable and exciting.

Sincerely,
THE FULLERS

"A Family Owned Farm"
Fuller Family Sugaring is located at the base of Mount Mansfield, the highest mtn in Vermont. We are nestled in between to large hills in the Pleasant Valley area, one of  the most beautiful and colorful during the fall foliage season.

My husband and I are both native Vermonters and grew up sugaring with family and friends. For us and many other Vermonters sugaring is a tradition. In 1999 we purchased our own land and began our own sugaring operation. We started with about 2000 taps, and as our children grew so did the taps, we now have approximately 6000. The sugaring season is a great family time for us, its alot of work, but we enjoy teaching our young children about the sugaring business and they enjoy being a part of it.
Fuller Family Sugaring is owned and operated by my husband, myself and our children. It is with great pride that we offer you a chance to enjoy and taste a true part of Vermont. It is our goal at Fuller Family Sugaring to satisfy our customers with some of the best maple products from Vermont.
Sincerely,
THE  FULLERS
